Manchester Limo Hire Calendar: Key Dates, Prom Season and When to Book

The weekends that sell out, the dates that are priced for the night, and the quiet weeks nobody tells you about

Limo availability in Manchester is not spread evenly across the year. Two fortnights – the school prom season at the end of June and the run-up to Christmas – take more of the fleet than the rest of the spring put together, and a handful of single nights sell out months ahead. Knowing where your date sits in this calendar tells you how early to book, whether you will have the pick of the fleet or whatever is left, and whether the quote will be a standard one or priced for the night. Here is the year as it looks from the Manchester booking desk.

The four dates that shape Manchester limo prices

Limo hire in Manchester starts from £365 for a one-hour stretch limousine on a standard date, and the quote for any booking depends on the vehicle, the hours, the date and the pick-up. The date matters more than people expect. On a key date every suitable vehicle in the region is working, the fleet is priced for the night rather than from a standard rate, and the cheapest limousines are the first to go. Four periods behave this way every year.

Everything else is a standard date, and within the standard dates there is a clear pecking order: summer Saturdays from May to September are busy because the hen, wedding and birthday calendars peak together; Fridays are a step quieter; Sundays and midweek evenings are the quietest and cheapest slots of all. The month-by-month notes below show what drives each.

Month by month

The Manchester limo year

What each month brings to the fleet, which bookings dominate, and how far ahead to ask.

January

The quietest month. Post-New Year, the fleet is wide open and midweek dates are at their lowest. Shopping trips in the sales, 18th and 21st birthdays that fall unluckily after Christmas, and the first couples planning summer weddings. Two to three weeks' notice is usually plenty.

February

Valentine's weekend is the one busy patch: anniversary dinners on King Street, proposals with a photo stop at the Quays, and the stretched Ferrari booked for the story. Chinese New Year in Chinatown brings a few group bookings. Otherwise quiet.

Valentine's weekend
March

Mother's Day lunches, the St Patrick's weekend around the Irish Festival, and the first hen parties of the year as the weather turns. Prom enquiries start in earnest – this is the month to secure a Hummer for June if you want a choice of colour.

April

Easter weekend is a key date. The Grand National festival at Aintree fills race-day bookings for three days, the Manchester Marathon closes roads on its Sunday morning, and April is the practical deadline for prom bookings – after it, the remaining vehicles are the ones nobody chose first.

EasterAintreeProm deadline
May

Two bank holidays, Chester's May Festival, the end of the football season with its title and relegation nights, and hen season properly under way. Summer Saturdays start here; six to eight weeks' notice becomes the sensible minimum for a weekend.

June

The busiest month of the year. Parklife at Heaton Park on its weekend, wedding season at full stretch, Haydock's summer evenings, and from the third week the prom fortnight begins – every secondary school in Greater Manchester within the same few evenings. Hummers go first, then white stretches, then pink.

July

Prom season finishes in the first week and the fleet exhales. The rest of July is summer Saturdays: weddings, hen parties and big birthdays, with airport transfers climbing as the school holidays start. Manchester International Festival adds city-centre evenings in its years.

August

Holiday month. Airport runs peak, weekends stay busy but less frantic than June, and the August bank holiday weekend – Manchester Pride in the Village and Creamfields down the road in Cheshire – is a key date in its own right. Children's parties fill the weekday afternoons.

Wedding season's second peak, Haydock's Sprint Cup meeting, the new football season settling in, and the last of the long-evening hen parties. Still a six-week-notice month for Saturdays; weekdays return to normal.

A breather. Half-term children's parties, Halloween weekend with the lighting set to orange and purple, and the first office Christmas parties being planned rather than held. Good month for a milestone birthday that wants the full choice of fleet.

The Christmas markets open in the city centre and the shopping days begin – Trafford Centre Saturdays, Black Friday weekend, afternoon tea runs. The last two weekends are the start of the Christmas-party season and behave like December.

Every Friday and Saturday is a key date: work parties (see Christmas party limo hire), friends' Christmas nights out, 18ths and 21sts that fall in the festive weeks, and shopping days under the lights. Boxing Day football, then New Year's Eve – the one night that outsells prom. Book December in October if you can.

Prom season in Greater Manchester

White stretch Hummer limousine with ribbons at a summer event

No other fortnight moves the Manchester fleet like prom. Schools across Trafford, Stockport, Salford, Bury, Bolton, Wigan, Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside hold their proms in the last two weeks of June and the first week of July, overwhelmingly on weekday evenings, and almost all of them want the same thing: a white Hummer H2 outside the house at six o'clock. In recent prom seasons the demand has been enough that Hummers have been brought in from Scotland and Wales to cover Greater Manchester alone, which tells you how early the local ones go.

The order in which the fleet sells out is predictable. Hummers first, white and then black. Then the white stretch Lincolns and Baby Bentleys, which cover the eight-seat groups. Pink limousines next, driven by girls' groups. Last to go are the executive 4×4 stretches and the 13-seat Navigators and Excursions – which is worth knowing, because a group of ten or eleven that cannot find a Hummer in May will usually find a Navigator, and it is the better vehicle for that number anyway.

Prom bookings are one-hour arrivals almost without exception, priced for the date, alcohol-free, and dependent on the pick-up postcode: a Timperley cul-de-sac or a school approach in Worsley that defeats an H2 is fine for an H3 or a stretch, and the chauffeur checks the route in advance. Our prom limo hire Manchester page covers venues, timings and the questions parents ask; the short version is to book by Easter.

Sporting and arena nights that tighten availability

Some dates are not formal key dates but still thin the fleet because a few hundred people decide at once that they want the same evening. The Manchester derby, home and away. Cup finals and the last day of the football season. The Grand National, Chester's May Festival and Haydock's big Saturdays. Stadium concerts at the Etihad and Old Trafford, and the biggest nights at Co-op Live and the AO Arena, when return bookings are timed to the encore. Parklife weekend in June. If your date coincides with one of these, treat it as a busy Saturday and book accordingly – the match day, race day and concerts and shows pages have the practicalities for each.

How far ahead to book in Manchester

Key dates

Three to six months

Prom fortnight, December weekends, New Year's Eve, bank-holiday weekends. The specific vehicle you want – the white H2, the pink Hummer, the chrome 8-wheeler – is a single car and goes to whoever asks first.

Summer Saturdays

Six to eight weeks

May to September weekends, when hen parties, weddings and birthdays compete for the same pink and white limousines. Earlier if you need a Saturday in June or a specific colour.

Standard weekends

Three to four weeks

Fridays and Saturdays outside the summer and December. Enough notice for a full choice of vehicles and the standard rate.

Midweek and Sundays

Days, sometimes hours

The quiet slots. Airport transfers, children's parties, anniversary dinners and midweek hens can often be arranged at short notice, and at the best prices of the week.

Prices in Manchester do not fall as a date approaches. The available fleet shrinks and what remains is the dearer end of it, so if you are quoted a vehicle you like at a price you like, book it. The vehicle is allocated first come, first served. For what else moves a quote, see limo hire Manchester prices; for the fleet and the areas we cover, start from limo hire Manchester.

Date questions

Manchester limo calendar FAQs

What counts as a key date for limo hire in Manchester?

Prom fortnight (the last two weeks of June and the first week of July), every Friday and Saturday in December, New Year's Eve and the bank-holiday weekends. On these dates the fleet is priced for the night rather than from a standard rate, and the cheapest vehicles go first.

When should I book a limo for a Manchester prom?

By Easter for the choice of Hummers, and by April at the latest. Hummers sell out first, followed by white stretches and pink limousines; the 13-seat Navigators and Excursions are usually the last to go and suit groups of ten or more well.

Is a limo cheaper midweek?

Yes. The same vehicle that is priced for a Saturday in June is at its lowest on a Tuesday in February. Sundays and weekday evenings are the quietest slots of the week all year round, and Manchester limo hire starts from £365 for a one-hour stretch on a standard date.

Do big matches and concerts affect availability?

They can. Derby days, cup finals, the Grand National, Chester's May Festival and stadium concerts all pull a lot of bookings onto one evening. They are not priced as key dates, but treat them as busy Saturdays and book early.

What is the busiest single night of the year?

New Year's Eve, by some distance, followed by the Saturday before Christmas and the busiest evening of prom fortnight. For New Year's Eve, book in the autumn and expect the vehicle to be priced for the night.
